Number 1! Het Fietsenpakhuis (near train station Zaandam) .
Fietsenpakhuis in Dutch means; the bike warehouse. On google it says it’s a place where you can store your bike, but don’t worry, there are many rental bikes available!

+ They are open every day of the week
+ They also rent out kids bikes
+ They have a lot of bikes on stock
+ It’s only 8 minutes walking from Zaandam Station
+ You can pay with creditcard
+ They have free tourist Zaan information maps available
+ They have their own bike repair shop to fix your bike on the spot
+ They have a public toilet
+ The shop is a initiative to employ people with special needs
+ They have a very good 4,8 google review rating
*Some negative notes are;
– You can’t make reservations because the contact information is limited
– It’s not really close to the Zaanse Schans, you have to bike for 20 minutes to reach the Windmills from this place
– They don’t have ebikes
– You can’t pay with cash

Number 2! Bike rent SAENBIKE in Zaandijk (near train station Zaanse Schans)
It’s a small bikeshop but they also do renting.
* Positive notes are;
+ It’s just 2 minutes from the Zaanse Schans Windmills
+ You can pay with cash or creditcard
+ They have a repair shop to fix the bikes
+ You can contact them for questions or reservations, contact info is available on google
+ They have a good google review rating of 4,5
* Some negative notes are
– They only have 10 bikes to rent out, so there is a chance that all bikes are gone when you arrive
– They don’t have kids bikes
– They don’t offer bike maps or information
– They are closed on Sundays and mondays
– They don’t have ebikes
Number 3! Bike rent at train station Zaanse Schans in Koog aan de Zaan
It’s an open air spot next to the station entrance / exit. So don’t expect a brick shop or store. It’s renting a bike at the street side.
* Positive notes are;
+ They have a large number of bikes
+ You can call or mail them to make group reservations. Google provides enough contact information
+ Only 5 minutes biking towards the windmills of the Zaanse Schans
* Some negative notes are;
– They are closed from 1 oktober until the 1st of march! (because they don’t have a warm shelter for their staff)
– They are also closed when it rains (or when the weather is just bad)
– You can only pay with cash, creditcard is not possible, if you dont have cash, you have to walk 10-15 minutes to the nearest ATM.
– Kids are not allowed on the bikes
– Their google review rating is below region avarage, it’s a 3,9
– Please check their google time table frequently because they are also closed a lot during the peak/high season.
– They don’t offer bike or information maps of the Zaan region
